The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities seeks a Web Associate for its dynamic and growing communications team.
The Center, a leading nonprofit policy institute, conducts research and analysis on budget, tax, health care, social insurance, and poverty policies at
both the federal and state levels. The Center has attained a national reputation for its unique capacity to blend credible, timely analyses with activities
designed to enable policymakers and the media to use its work.
The Center is widely cited by the media and is consistently able to inform news stories and editorials in major mainstream and new media outlets. The
organization maintains strong relationships with national and state press corps and bloggers, conducts briefings, distributes a wide range of studies,
issue briefs, blog posts, podcasts and other multimedia content. It is known for its ability to respond rapidly to breaking policy issues.
The Web Associate position will be primarily responsible for converting and posting Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents to HTM and PDF files on the Center's
web site, updating the Center’s affiliated sites using WordPress, tracking and reporting site metrics, and posting and maintaining content on Drupal and WordPress
platforms. This individual will support the Center's communications team in its daily efforts to deliver robust content via the organization's core web site, which
will be launched on the Drupal plaῴform in the next few weeks. This individual will also be responsible for maintaining all of the Center's WordPress-powered sub-sites
and blog. A successful candidate will be a highly-motivated professional with at least two years of experience posting content via Drupal and Wordpress, as well
as eῸperience working with Drupal moῤules and WordPress plugins. A strong foundation in HTML and CSS is essential, and proficiency in PHP is a plus. Often this
individual will be the last set of eyes on content before it is posted on the Center's sites, so proofreading and writing skills are also valued for this
position. Ability to edit video is a significant plus.
Responsibilities:
Daily posting to Drupal and WordPress sites
Proficiency making minor layout changes to Drupal or WordPress themes, via edits to CSS or templates
Exercising good judgment in the selection of plugins or modules to extend site functionality
Proactively identifying and troubleshooting web posting workflow deficiencies or inefficiencies
Working closely with Center's Drupal Developer to modify or enhance existing Center sites and develop new ones on the Drupal and/or WordPress platforms
Providing assistance in creating and maintaining clear, concise documentation of workflow procedures when needed
Qualifications:
At least two years experience working with Drupal modules and WordPress plugins
Thorough understanding of Google Analytics
Experience working with social media and web 2.0 APIs
Understanding of Drupal and WordPress template systems
Proficiency with PHP programming
Strong experience with CSS, HTML
Proficiency with MySQL databases
Strong troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of Drupal performance optimization practices
Knowledge of section 508 guidelines
Strong time management and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize, often juggling urgent daily assignments that take precedence over longer-term projects
An interest in public policy issues is a plus
