Job Description: FREELANCE WRITERS

Advancement Project is a policy and legal action group that creates strategies for achieving universal opportunity and a racially just democracy. Advancement Project is in the process of building a cadre of freelance writer(s) for its Root and Branch Magazine.

Root & Branch is Advancement Project's national Web-based magazine. Root & Branch seeks to help build grassroots movements from the bottom up by sharing thoughtful analysis aimed at uprooting systemic racism. In each quarterly issue, readers will hear thoughtful analysis from grassroots leaders, organizers, and funders, who are working toward progressive change on matters of race. Root & Branch seeks to constantly rethink our strategies in the struggle for racial equality with comprehensive thinking about what policy ideas would dismantle the structures that are dividing communities of color while we seek to equalize opportunity. Advancement Project's hope is that Root & Branch will aid grassroots groups and leaders in their struggle in a way that's natural and organic.

The ideal candidates will have good conceptual skills and a civil rights background.

Candidates must have:

Pick Up Concepts Quickly
Write Persuasive Copy
Ability to Interpret and Organize Data
Strong Interviewing Skills
Firm Command of the English Language (spelling, grammar, punctuation)
6+ Years Writing Experience
